NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar resigns, Suman Berry will take over

NITI Aayog: NITI Aayog Deputy Chairman Rajiv Kumar has stepped down. Now Dr. Suman Berry will be the new Vice-Chairman of NITI Ayog. He will take over his post after April 30. At present, the reasons for Rajiv Kumar’s removal from the post are not known. Renowned economist Kumar took over as the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog in August 2017. Kumar was entrusted with this responsibility after the then vice-president Arvind Panagariya stepped down from the commission. Kumar earned a doctorate in economics from Oxford University and a PhD from Lucknow University. He has also been a Senior Fellow at the Center for Policy Research.

Let us tell you that in the year 2014 when Narendra Modi When the government came to power for the first time, the then Planning Commission was renamed as NITI Aayog. Arvind Panagariya became the first Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog, he remained in this post till September 1, 2022, after which Rajiv Kumar took over the post. Rajiv Kumar was the Secretary General of FICCI before the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, he had also served as the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank from 1995 to 2005. 70-year-old Rajiv Kumar studied from Lucknow University.

Suman Berry is an Indian economist and he has also been the Chief Economist of the World Bank, before that he was also the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi from 2001 to 2011. At present, he is a non-resident fellow of an economic think tank based in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Suman Berry has completed her graduation from Oxford University and has done her post graduation from Princeton University.
