National Herald Case Latest Update: The Delhi Police has not allowed the march of Congress leaders-workers with Rahul Gandhi to the ED office. The Congress, accusing the central government of misusing the probe agency, had decided that during the production of Rahul Gandhi before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 13, senior party leaders and MPs would conduct ‘Satyagraha’ outside the ED office and Delhi I will march to the headquarters of the investigating agency. At the same time, the Congress had announced a nationwide satyagraha over the issue of summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi in the money laundering case related to the National Herald-Associated Journals Limited deal.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is likely to be questioned tomorrow i.e. on June 13 in this case. Rahul was earlier called for questioning on June 2, but he had sought a new date as he was on a foreign trip. The ED has summoned him on June 13. The case pertains to the investigation into alleged financial irregularities in the party-backed Young Indian Private Limited. ‘National Herald’ is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. ED officials had told that the agency wants to record the statements of Sonia and Rahul under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Pilot made this allegation
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot reacted sharply to the ED’s notice to top Congress leaders, calling it the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi told the conspiracy. Officials had said that the questioning of senior Congress leaders and the Gandhi family is part of the ED’s probe to understand the stake pattern, financial transactions and role of promoters of Young Indian and AJL. The promoters and shareholders of Young Indian include Sonia and Rahul and some other members of Congress.
Complaint was filed in 2013
The agency had registered a fresh case under criminal provisions of the PMLA after a trial court here took cognizance of the Income Tax Department’s investigation against Young Indian Pvt Ltd. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy had lodged a complaint in this regard in 2013.
